Obergurgl in Summer

The Timmelsjoch Hochalpenstrasse

“The secret gateway” to the south is not only the ultimate high Alpine road, it is the ideal starting point for tours along the north-south axis! The Timmelsjoch High Alpine Road, one of the most famous passes in the Alps, is right on our door step in Obergurgl-Hochgurgl.

On the highest pass in the Eastern Alps you will find spectacular viewing points, arguably the most beautiful natural panoramas in the Alps, crystal clear streams and ancient inns. More than 60 irresistible hairpin bends make for an unforgettable drive and our secret tip is to do the trip by convertible, motor bike or mountain bike.

Top Mountain Star

Great views in the Top Mountain Star panorama bar at 3,082 m

The new Top Mountain Star on the summit of the Wurmkogl at 3,082 m is a highlight in the truest sense of the word. The unique combination of panoramic viewing platform and mountain top bar invites you to stay a while and marvel. The new building on the summit can be seen sparkling from a distance, with Swarovski crystals on the outside trying to outshine one another in the bright sunlight.

Right next to the lift exit of the new 4-seater chair lift Top Wurmkogl II, there is a large flight of steps that swing out over the precipitous ridge below and lead up into the airy building. The panorama bar with its circular terrace provides a 360° view and enables you to enjoy the mountain experience in every sense. The Dolomites to the south and the Ötz Valley Alps with the Wildspitze to the north are within reach. There’s a bar inside the restaurant for you to enjoy, with twinkling stars and a menu of regional delicacies.

Gaisberg and Hohe Mut Lift

Since winter 2008/09 there has been a new 8-seater gondola lift up to the Hohe Mut (2,670 m), a mountain boasting one of the most beautiful views in the Ötz Valley and Tyrol. The Hohe Mut Inn provides the perfect starting point both for high mountain tours and gentle walking trips for the whole family.

Ötzi village in Umhausen

This archaeological open-air park illustrates in a very graphic way “life and death, domestic circumstances and economic activities” in the Neolithic Age, i.e. the time of Ötzi, the famous man found in the ice. An interesting excursion for the whole family.

Ötz Valley Nature Park

The unique Ötz Valley Nature Park covers the southern Ötz Valley and the Vent and Gurgl Valleys, with the villages of Vent and Obergurgl at its heart. In the summer, from the beginning of June to the end of September, there is a very varied, guided Nature Park programme, with lots of worthwhile and interesting things to discover and experience with regard to the flora and fauna and geology of this area so rich in history, such as the “Hollow Stone above Vent”, a resting place for hunters and herdsmen dating from the Stone Age (8th – 4th millennium BC).

Tower Museum in Ötz

A comprehensive historical collection of a wide range of artwork provides impressive evidence about the region’s past. In addition to the permanent exhibition there are continuous special exhibitions to view. The museum itself, the oldest secular building in the Ötz Valley, is also well worth a visit.

You’ll find more tips and information on the region at

Fun & Games in the children’s paradise

In addition to the comprehensive leisure programme in Obergurgl, the “Austria-Bellevue” Children’s Club provides all sorts of fun and entertainment for all children six days a week (excluding Saturday). Excellent child care from 9.30 am to 4.30 pm and on request there is an evening meal at 6.00 pm which children eat together accompanied by a parent. Afterwards the children can again be supervised from 7.00 to 8.30 pm whilst the parents enjoy their meal in peace and quiet.

A play room, pool and table football, mean there’s no chance of boredom.
